Tunnel 10k

Do not miss the chance to run on a Minnesota Interstate Highway through 6 tunnels and with live music. While most of the time if you are running or walking on an interstate, you are carrying an empty gas can!

A closed course allows the start to be on the north bound side of I-35 just south of the 5th Ave overpass. At mile 3 near 26th Ave E., participants make a legal U-Turn and head south to the 5th St. exit and continue to the finish line alongside the famous William A. Irvin, a retired lake freighter.

NO BUS LOADING REQUIRED! Runners and walkers can access the course across Railroad St and head south on I-35. The interstate is closed, no traffic will be on the course.

Certified Course

The 10k course is a certified 10k distance! Our certification code is MN14068RR. What does this mean? The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances.
For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.

NorthShore Run races are held rain or shine and are nonrefundable. There are no transfers of race packets or bib numbers and no refunds for any reason or exception.

All runners must show a photo ID to pick up their race packet.

Note: Daily parking in the DECC lot costs $5.00. Inline kids sprints starting at 5:00pm on Friday on Harbor Drive so expect traffic delays.

If you are not able to pick your packet up in person, you have a couple of options:

You may have someone else pick up your packet for you if you have in writing permission along with their confirmation email registration.

For $25 (within the United States) you can have your packet mailed to you prior to the race. Please send a check with a note including the address where you want your packet mailed to: NorthShore Inline Marathon, 525 Lake Ave S., Duluth, MN 55802. All requests for this service must be in by September 1, 2017.


Timing

We use state-of-the-art electronic chip timing. Your bib number (custom with your name) has a timing tag on it, you do not need an additional timing chip.

Runners must be registered by August 22nd to receive a bib with their name on it!


Bibs

Your race packet contains a color-coded numbered bib with a timing device attached to the back. The large bib should be pinned to your chest or abdomen area and NOT on the legs or hips. Do not fold, wrinkle, or alter these numbers.

 Parking

Friday and Saturday daily parking at the DECC is available for a $5 fee. The DECC also offers overnight parking for single vehicles ($10/night) & RV’s (electric hook-up ($35) or non-electric sites ($25)). More information is available at www.decc.org or by calling (218) 722-5573, ext.283. There is some free parking in the area however, it is limited. No parking will be available at the start area! All participants, other than those staying in Two Harbors, are strongly urged to take the shuttle buses to the start line.


 Directions

From the North:

  1. From I-35 south take the Lake Avenue/5th Avenue West Exit (#256B) and stay in the left lane.
  2. At the stoplight, turn left on Canal Park Drive and immediately get into the right lane.
  3. Turn right on Railroad Street, drive under the skywalk and turn left into the DECC parking lot.

From the South:

  1. From I-35 north take the Lake Avenue/5th Avenue West Exit (#256B) and stay in the right lane.
  2. At the stoplight, go straight until you get to the stoplights at Lake Avenue.
  3. Turn right on Canal Park Drive and stay in the right lane.
  4. Turn right on Railroad Street, drive under the skywalk and turn left into the DECC parking lot.

“RULES OF THE ROAD”

All runners/walkers must cross the finish line with a time of 2 hours (2:00:00). There will be a sag wagon that will pick up ALL RUNNERS/WALKERS ON THE COURSE AFTER 10:00am. The course must be completely cleared of all runners to allow the full marathon inline skaters, who could have an estimated finish time of 10:00am.

Warming up on the course

Runners will NOT be allowed on the course heading NORTH of the start line. Runners may warm up on Railroad St. as well as heading south from the starting line.

Note: The 10k runners will be merging with the Wheels Off half marathon runners coming down from the shore at the turn around.


Water

Water will NOT be available at the start line. Water bottles will be provided at the water station along the course at 3 miles. You may require more water or energy (food) during the event, please carry it with you and dispose of it properly. If you slow or stop at a water station, please stay to the right to avoid collisions and congestion. Please make every effort to discard water bottles in the mile marker/trash barrels prior to the interstate or carry it with you until the finish. Bottle caps dropped on the road are dangerous for following skaters. The NSIM does not supply food or energy replacement products on the course.


Goodies

All participants will receive a finisher shirt and finisher medal sponsored by St. Germain’s Cabinet.


Race Day Foods By Super One Foods

A fabulous array of bananas, apples, oranges, cookies and yogurt and 20,000 bottles of water all generously donated by SUPER ONE FOODS will be available at the finish line. Please support SUPER ONE FOODS. They’ve been amazing supporters of us!


Toilets

Porta-potties will be provided near the start area and at the finish line. The future of this race depends on participants respecting the property and rights of area residents and businesses. If nature calls, please use the available toilets.


Medical Support

First aid and medical support will be available at the finish line located in Pioneer Hall (DECC). All medical expenses incurred by participants are the responsibility of the participant.


Protest

Should you have a protest; forms will be provided on the preliminary results board and the Information Booth. All protests must be entered by 11:00 a.m. on race day. Race judges will resolve protests involving awards prior to the awards ceremony.


Awards Ceremony

The top 3 Tunnel 10k finishers in each gender specific age class will be awarded an engraved medallion, in recognition of their impressive accomplishment at the 10k awards ceremony which will commence at 12 p.m. at Grandma’s Sports Garden. Awards will not be mailed.
